Durable natural wood finishing solutions
Sustainable materials and durable design solutions in the new Pagramantis Regional Park observation tower
During the construction of the new observation tower in Pagramantis Regional Park, special attention was given to finding highly durable finishing solutions that would blend naturally into the landscape and subtly highlight the surrounding panoramic views.
The architectural vision was brought to life with the help of wood supplier UAB Wood Line, selecting Brazilian hardwood species Ipe and Cumaru for the exterior finish. In total, 320 m² of Ipe decking boards were used for the observation deck, stairs, and pathways. Additionally, the stair structure includes 15 m³ of larger-dimension Cumaru boards.
Brazilian hardwoods are renowned for their exceptional durability.
Ipe – also known as sevenleaf basralocus – is naturally resistant to wear, decay, and weather conditions. It is prized for its strength and long-lasting performance.
Cumaru, often referred to as Brazilian teak, features a uniform light brown to golden hue and offers similar technical characteristics to Ipe, with outstanding color stability over time. Both Ipe and Cumaru are high-density woods (950–1200 kg/m³), providing exceptional durability and a service life exceeding 25 years.
