IPE wood – for the solutions of villa „Lūšis“

In the heart of Palanga, next to Birutė Park, the villa „Lūšis“ draws attention. A single-volume, two-storey building with a dynamic, angular silhouette, featuring an attic and two towers with sculpted brass edges – it is a contemporary interpretation of late 19th–early 20th century resort villa architecture, reminiscent of a graceful Lithuanian predator with distinctive ears.

For the terraces, one of the hardest woods in the world was selected

“Wood Line”, one of the largest suppliers of natural wood materials and adhesives in Lithuania and the Baltic States, with over 20 years of experience in furniture, interior, and exterior solutions, provided the wood for the terraces of villa „Lūšis“. The company focuses on sustainable, long-lasting materials for terraces, facades, and architectural elements.

According to Wood Line representatives, it was essential that the decking material would harmonize with the natural surroundings and architecture, while maintaining its distinctive appearance over time – even gaining more character with age.

For villa „Lūšis“, decking boards made from Tabebuia heptaphylla (commonly known as Ipe) were selected, along with a hardwood substructure and high-quality fittings. Ipe is widely considered the gold standard for decking and is often referred to as “iron wood” due to its exceptional durability (Class 1) and density, surpassing most natural materials worldwide. It is so dense (over 3500 lbf on the Janka scale) that it sinks in water. Thanks to its density and natural oils, Ipe wood is highly resistant to rot, mold, fungi, and insects. Its rich, deep tones give the terrace a refined, premium look.

According to "Wood Line" representatives, Ipe is a long-term solution. When properly installed, a terrace made from this wood can last at least 25 years.
